Dear GlyMed Plus Community,

We are committed to taking action to become a more inclusive company. Following several interviews with our professionals, we received valuable feedback that has shaped and informed a set of steps that we have and are taking as a company. These actions demonstrate our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We have made charitable donations to nonprofit organizations focused on racial justice. Specifically, we have donated $25,000 ($5,000 to each of the five organizations below) to support the fight against racism.

Second, we have created the Unity Advisory Committee that is made up of GlyMed Plus professionals from every market to bring the diverse voices of all professionals including Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color to our decision-making process, to help shape our marketing, promotions, products, and training. Next, we heard a desire for a more sustained, focused effort on reflecting the racial diversity of our customers and their clients in our marketing. We issued a Call-for-Photos to all licensed professionals and received a large array of images of actual GlyMed Plus estheticians and their clients. These images emphasized the diversity of the communities we serve and will be added to all of our marketing materials.

At the suggestion of one of our estheticians, our Global Skin of Color Manual is now available to all licensed skin care professionals at no cost. To download this manual, log into your professional account and click on the Global Skin of Color Manual under the Marketing section. To request a free physical copy, please reach out to your Account Manager.

We also recognize the shortcomings in our industry’s understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion, and how to apply that lens to everything GlyMed Plus does as a company. GlyMed Plus has partnered with a DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) who has reviewed our Global Skin of Color Manual for appropriate industry and medical verbage.

Finally, we have received many questions about Christine Heathman’s ties to GlyMed Plus. I want to answer that question directly and as clearly as possible. Christine Heathman founded GlyMed Plus in 1992. Three years ago, Christine brought in a consultative management team into the company to manage the day-to-day operations. In an effort to continue the transformation of GlyMed Plus, day-to-day operations were transitioned over to Jon McDaniel, President, on July 30th, 2020. Christine has been semi-retired since 2018 and has not been onsite in a management role or responsibilities. This allows her to pursue other personal interests including developing new skin care products. Though she has confirmed in public statements that she has stepped back from her chief executive role, Christine does use her former title of CEO in her biography, existing marketing information, at public events, and in interviews. She remains the sole shareholder of the company, and as such, she derives a financial benefit from GlyMed.

We are committed to listening, learning, and improving.

Our Progress Thus Far

  1. $25,000 in donations have been made. This is composed of $5,000 donations made to each of the five charities identified above in our action plan.
  2. 8 Board members have been selected to join the Unity Advisory Committee (UAC) and have held their first quarterly meeting in regards to packaging, promotions, and customer service.
  3. We have issued a “call for photos” for our esthetic family to submit photos of themselves, their clients, and their spa. This is to increase our image library and include a more diverse portfolio of photos. Thank you to all those who participated!
  4. GlyMed Plus has been working with a DEI partner to help train and guide us organizationally. Our first task together was to review the Global Skin of Color Manual before making it available to all of our licensed estheticians.
